Sunday July 28 to 29 in Val Zemola: top Duranno

Monday, around noon, me and dad we left the Dolomites of Friuli. Our destination was the mountain Duranno, the rocky hill overlooking the Val Zemola Valley become "famous" thanks to the accounts of Mauro Corona. The entrance to the Valley is located just above Zemola Erto, the birthplace of sculptor-writer-bearded mountaineer. Climb the beautiful and wild valley Zemola we've been in Maniago, a refuge for those real (not a shameful hotel, as there are many in the Dolomites). Lavish dinner and early to bed, under the looming presence of the walls of Duranno.

(The refuge Maniago. On the left is the looming presence of
Duranno, with the middle fork Duranno)

(The Duranno looms over the refuge)

(From the fork to Val Zemola:
Mountain Village and Mount Buscada)

the morning, the sky is clear and the weather promises well. Rose to a comfortable and scenic trail to the fork Duranno we overlook the steep meadows that give the valley to Cimolais. A show. The normal route follows the ridge to Duranno that part of the fork and then take on a ledge, which unexpectedly leads to the weakness of the wall: a leaning chimney, but that leads directly into the wet Cadin Alto, the top part of the summit.

(Begin the ridge leading to the ledge)

exile summit plateau is a view of several mountain ranges and the view of the valley below Zemola breathtaking. After a snack and then be filled with such beautiful eyes and ears with lots of silence, a quick abseil took us back to the ledge.

From there, with equally rapid descent, we returned to the shelter Maniago and then to the machine. During the descent, we made a "company" in a downpour, which was then transformed in a real storm. We arrived soaked to the car!

Crossing of the five fingers in Sassolungo

(The 5 fingers. The journey begins on the right.
clearly visible the slender thumb.)

with Ale Yesterday we spent a wonderful day in Langkofel. Our destination was the fifth fingers, a complex of peaks like with an open hand, we wanted to deal with the crossing. After the first two pitches on steep but well plates holds, for an oversight, we were wrong to attack the street leading to the thumb. Then, following a guide with his client (very cute :-) we brought in the notch that separates the thumb from the index and we have addressed the latter climbing, jumping it the first "finger". Patience, good reason to come back.
(I'm on the second shot)

(Ale and the beautiful exposed through the index,
key point of the street.)

(I parked at the end the same ledger)

(At the top of the index: the usual photos)

At the top the index for the normal route, which is frequented by air but rather the solid rock, we continued across to the middle, ring and little fingers. Here the street, which is much less than the normal repeated index, port in a wild, at times almost horrid but very impressive. The difficulties are never more than the third grade, but given the wilderness of the crossing must always pay close attention.
(I beam that avoids the delicate crumbly top of the medium)

(Ale is preparing for a double)

(Ale abseil)

(Between cross and double no time for a little 'relaxation)

With a series stringers delicate double strings and air, we finally brought the range that divides the five fingers from Punta Grohman, from which we fell to the pass seat. After a short break to eat and enjoy a po'sui blocks scattered on the plateau of the pass, it was time to put the seat in the car and head home.
(Ale, a small black dot between
scree that descend from the fork of the 5 fingers)

(Relax on the blocks, about 5 fingers)

(Relax on the blocks, to the Sella)

(The beautiful Sella, unfortunately ruined by
number of plants, not visible in this beautiful picture of Ale.)

beautiful day, in good company.

Tribute to Karl Unterkircher

I met him in 2005, when we went on with my dad Sassolungo the normal route. Karl was climbing with a client.
At the top we did a little 'of photos together. Here is one:

(I, Karl Unterkircher and his client)

Now Karl is based on the strong wall of Nanga Parbat, one of the most beautiful mountains in the world.

When Traveling At Rural Roadways

Val Calamento, Slimber, Cima d'Ezze, Valtrigona

Thursday I spent another day in solitude in Lagorai . The
My intention was to visit the Valtrigona, a beautiful side valley Calamento which is a few years became "the WWF oasis." In the morning I went up the valley to the pass Calamento Palu. From there I moved on the crest of Slimber, which is composed of two peaks: a grassy and rocky one. From Slimber, still following the ridge where possible, I pointed at the top of Ezze. After a brief stop I got off on the banks of the beautiful lake of Ezze, where I "dined" with a great sandwich. I then climbed the ridge to fork Valtrigona, from which I have fallen in the magnificent and unspoiled oasis of the WWF.

(At the top of the Slimber)

the day, beautiful even in terms of meteorological, ended with a welcome stop for Valtrigona Hut. After the acquisition by the WWF in fact, the old and abandoned hut was used as a small museum, where you can learn many interesting things about the flora and fauna of Valtrigona. At the hut I had a very pleasant meeting. As I suspected I could find Walter, one of the project leaders Valtrigona, whom I met at the Trento Film Festival during a tour with my class averages. Walter very kindly gave me a guide in a small town and offered me a very welcome coffee right in front of which we discussed the environment, tourism and more.
After a brandy went down to the valley singing :-)!

Difference Between Rat Terriers And Fox Terriers

HAMMOND PLANET!

today with fellow musician Nicholas Gentilini we went to Milan to visit to 'Planet Hammond, one of the few shops specializing in sales and repair of the legendary Hammond Organ. Nicholas, who bought a Hammond C-3 recently, had to return to the store to pick up a tube head. I have taken the opportunity to return to that paradise (a keyboardist) I had visited some years ago in the company of Hermes.
(A portion of the Hall of the store. ... We are everywhere Hammond)

Hammond organ, my dream as a musician, has the most incredible sound you can imagine. In the morning I got to play the B-3, which usually uses Brian Auger (Hammond one of the best ever) when on tour in Italy.
(The Hammond B-3 of the great Brian. A sound fabulous.)
Any attempt to describe the sound of that instrument and the feeling you get when you "put above the hands "are useless.
must hear to understand.

Way "Franz", de la Mesules Biesces

Thursday with Paul there we are moved in the charming Val Gardena another way to deal with Ivo Rabanser. This is the way "Franz" on mesules de la Bisces, a compact wall facing north-west. The way to difficulties similar to those of " The Fountain of Oblivion ", after an initial extent that it exceeds the rock cliffs of yellowish, blackish moves on a plate, where the rock is very compact and solid, though at times covered with a kind lichen.
I was not absolutely in the day, unfortunately. The yellow cliffs then I'm not sure the ground where I move better. Aided by a number of factors at times I felt embarrassed and I could not enjoy the way as I wanted. Nevertheless it was a beautiful day, and certainly a lesson for the future. Paul, as always, safe and quiet even on the sections for me the most difficult and poorly protected. Some photos:

(Superb view on the massif Sassolungo)
